Title: Vector-Tensor and Vector-Vector Decay Amplitude Analysis of B{sup 0}{yields}{phi}K{sup *0}

Abstract

We perform an amplitude analysis of the decays B{sup 0}{yields}{phi}K{sub 2}{sup *}(1430){sup 0}, {phi}K{sup *}(892){sup 0}, and {phi}(K{pi}){sub S-wave}{sup 0} with a sample of about 384x10{sup 6} BB pairs recorded with the BABAR detector. The fractions of longitudinal polarization f{sub L} of the vector-tensor and vector-vector decay modes are measured to be 0.853{sub -0.069}{sup +0.061}{+-}0.036 and 0.506{+-}0.040{+-}0.015, respectively. Overall, twelve parameters are measured for the vector-vector decay and seven parameters for the vector-tensor decay, including the branching fractions and parameters sensitive to CP violation.

  • We present improved measurements of CP-violation parameters in B{sup 0}{yields}{phi}K{sup 0}, {eta}{sup '}K{sup 0}, K{sub S}{sup 0}K{sub S}{sup 0}K{sub S}{sup 0} decays based on a sample of 535x10{sup 6} BB pairs collected at the {upsilon}(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB energy-asymmetric e{sup +}e{sup -} collider. We obtain sin2{phi}{sub 1}{sup eff}=+0.64{+-}0.10(stat){+-}0.04(syst) for B{sup 0}{yields}{eta}{sup '}K{sup 0}, +0.50{+-}0.21(stat){+-}0.06(syst) for B{sup 0}{yields}{phi}K{sup 0}, and +0.30{+-}0.32(stat){+-}0.08(syst) for B{sup 0}{yields}K{sub S}{sup 0}K{sub S}{sup 0}K{sub S}{sup 0} decays. We have observed CP violation in the B{sup 0}{yields}{eta}{sup '}K{sup 0} decay with a significance of 5.6 standard deviations.   • We present the first evidence of charmless decays of the B{sub s}{sup 0} meson, the decay B{sub s}{sup 0}{yields}{phi}{phi}, and a measurement of the branching ratio BR(B{sub s}{sup 0}{yields}{phi}{phi}) using 180 pb{sup -1} of data collected by the CDF II experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. In addition, the BR and direct CP asymmetry for the B{sup +}{yields}{phi}K{sup +} decay are measured. We obtain BR(B{sub s}{sup 0}{yields}{phi}{phi})=[14{sub -5}{sup +6}(stat){+-}6(syst)]x10{sup -6}, BR(B{sup +}{yields}{phi}K{sup +})=[7.6{+-}1.3(stat){+-}0.6(syst)]x10{sup -6}, and A{sub CP}(B{sup +}{yields}{phi}K{sup +})=-0.07{+-}0.17(stat)(+0.03/-0.02)(syst). Both decays are governed in the standard model by second order (penguin) b{yields}sss amplitudes.
  • We perform an amplitude analysis of B{sup {+-}}{yields}{phi}(1020)K*(892){sup {+-}} decay with a sample of about 384x10{sup 6} BB pairs recorded with the BABAR detector. Overall, twelve parameters are measured, including the fractions of longitudinal f{sub L} and parity-odd transverse f{sub perpendicular} amplitudes, branching fraction, strong phases, and six parameters sensitive to CP violation. We use the dependence on the K{pi} invariant mass of the interference between the J{sup P}=1{sup -} and 0{sup +} K{pi} components to resolve the discrete ambiguity in the determination of the strong and weak phases. Our measurements of f{sub L}=0.49{+-}0.05{+-}0.03, f{sub perpendicular}=0.21{+-}0.05{+-}0.02, and the strong phasesmore » point to the presence of a substantial helicity-plus amplitude from a presently unknown source.« less
  • A preliminary measurement of the ratio of branching ratios BR(B{sup +} {yields} J/{psi}K{sup +})/BR(B{sup 0} {yields} J/{psi}K{sup 0}) and BR(B{sup +} {yields} J/{psi}K{sup +})/BR(B{sup +} {yields} J/{psi}K{sup *+}) is made by fully reconstructing each mode, where J/{psi} {yields} {mu}{sup +}{mu}{sup {minus}}, K{sup *+} {yields} K{sup 0}{sub s}{pi}{sup +} and K{sup 0}{sub s} {yields} {pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup {minus}}. The data were taken with the CDF detector during the 1993 run. The total integrated luminosity is {approx} 20pb{sup {minus}1} resulting in a sample of about 170 J/{psi}K{sup {+-}}, 50 J/{psi}K{sup 0}{sub S} and 25 J/{psi}K{sup *{+-}} candidate events. The results will be reported.
