Title: Inclusive Search for New Physics with Like-Sign Dilepton Events in pp Collisions at {radical}(s)=1.96 TeV

Abstract

We describe a search for anomalous production of events with two leptons (e or {mu}) of the same electric charge in pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV. Many extensions to the standard model predict the production of two leptons of the same electric charge. This search has a significant increase in sensitivity compared to earlier searches. Using a data sample corresponding to 1 fb{sup -1} of integrated luminosity recorded by the CDF II detector, we observe no significant excess in an inclusive selection (expect 33.2{+-}4.7 events, observe 44) or in a supersymmetry-optimized selection (expect 7.8{+-}1.1 events, observe 13.)

  • We present a search for associated Higgs boson production in the process pp{yields}W/ZH{yields}l{sup {+-}l'{+-}+}X in ee, e{mu}, and {mu}{mu} final states. The search is based on data collected by the D0 experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider at {radical}(s)=1.96 TeV corresponding to 5.3 fb{sup -1} of integrated luminosity. We require two isolated leptons (electrons or muons) with the same electric charge and additional kinematic requirements. No significant excess above background is observed, and we set 95% C.L. observed (expected) upper limits on ratio of the production cross section to the standard model prediction of 6.4 (7.3) for a Higgs bosonmore » mass of 165 GeV and 13.5 (19.8) for a mass of 115 GeV.« less
  • We present results of a search for anomalous production of events containing a charged lepton (l, either e or {mu}) and a photon ({gamma}), both with high transverse momentum, accompanied by additional signatures X, including missing transverse energy (Ee{sub T}) and additional leptons and photons. We use the same selection criteria as in a previous CDF search but with a substantially larger data set, 305 pb{sup -1}, a pp collision energy of 1.96 TeV, and the CDF II detector. We find 42 l{gamma}Ee{sub T} events versus an expectation of 37.3{+-}5.4 events. We observe 31 ll{gamma}+X events versus an expectation ofmore » 23.0{+-}2.7 events. We find no events similar to the run I ee{gamma}{gamma}Ee{sub T} event.« less
  • We present results of a search at CDF in 929{+-}56 pb{sup -1} of pp collisions at 1.96 TeV for the anomalous production of events containing a high-transverse momentum charged lepton (l, either e or {mu}) and photon ({gamma}), accompanied by missing transverse energy (Ee{sub T}), and/or additional leptons and photons, and jets (X). We use the same selection criteria as in a previous CDF Run I search, but with an order-magnitude larger data set, a higher pp collision energy, and the CDF II detector. We find 163 l{gamma}Ee{sub T}+X events, compared to an expectation of 150.6{+-}13.0 events. We observe 74more » ll{gamma}+X events, compared to an expectation of 65.1{+-}7.7 events. We find no events similar to the Run I ee{gamma}{gamma}Ee{sub T} event.« less
  • We report the results of a search for a narrow resonance in electron-positron events in the invariant mass range of 150-950 GeV/c{sup 2} using 1.3 fb{sup -1} of pp collision data at {radical}(s)=1.96 TeV collected by the CDF II detector at Fermilab. No significant evidence of such a resonance is observed and we interpret the results to exclude the standard-model-like Z{sup '} with a mass below 923 GeV/c{sup 2} and the Randall-Sundrum graviton with a mass below 807 GeV/c{sup 2} for k/M{sub pl}=0.1, both at the 95% confidence level. Combining with diphoton data excludes the Randall-Sundrum graviton for masses belowmore » 889 GeV/c{sup 2} for k/M{sub pl}=0.1.« less
