Title: Measurement of the Pseudoscalar Decay Constant f{sub D{sub s}} Using Charm-Tagged Events in e{sup +}e{sup -} Collisions at {radical}(s)=10.58 GeV

Abstract

Using 230.2 fb{sup -1} of e{sup +}e{sup -} annihilation data collected with the BABAR detector at and near the peak of the {upsilon}(4S) resonance, 489{+-}55 events containing the pure leptonic decay D{sub s}{sup +}{yields}{mu}{sup +}{nu}{sub {mu}} have been isolated in charm-tagged events. The ratio of partial widths {gamma}(D{sub s}{sup +}{yields}{mu}{sup +}{nu}{sub {mu}})/{gamma}(D{sub s}{sup +}{yields}{phi}{pi}{sup +}) is measured to be 0.143{+-}0.018{+-}0.006 allowing a determination of the pseudoscalar decay constant f{sub D{sub s}}=(283{+-}17{+-}7{+-}14) MeV. The errors are statistical, systematic, and from the D{sub s}{sup +}{yields}{phi}{pi}{sup +} branching ratio, respectively.

  • Analyzing 600 pb{sup -1} of e{sup +}e{sup -} collisions at 4170 MeV center-of-mass energy with the CLEO-c detector, we measure the branching fraction B(D{sub s}{sup +}{yields}{tau}{sup +}{nu})=(5.52{+-}0.57{+-}0.21)% using the {tau}{sup +}{yields}{rho}{sup +}{nu} decay mode. Combining with other CLEO measurements of B(D{sub s}{sup +}{yields}{tau}{sup +}{nu}) we determine the pseudoscalar decay constant f{sub D{sub s}}=(259.7{+-}7.8{+-}3.4) MeV consistent with the value obtained from our D{sub s}{sup +}{yields}{mu}{sup +}{nu} measurement of (257.6{+-}10.3{+-}4.3) MeV. Combining these measurements we find a value of f{sub D{sub s}}=(259.0{+-}6.2{+-}3.0) MeV, that differs from the most accurate prediction based on unquenched lattice gauge theory of (241{+-}3) MeV by 2.4 standardmore » deviations. We also present the first measurements of B(D{sub s}{sup +}{yields}K{sup 0}{pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup 0})=(1.00{+-}0.18{+-}0.04)%, and B(D{sub s}{sup +}{yields}{pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup 0}{pi}{sup 0})=(0.65{+-}0.13{+-}0.03)%, and measure a new value for B(D{sub s}{sup +}{yields}{eta}{rho}{sup +})=(8.9{+-}0.6{+-}0.5)%.« less
  • We have studied B{sub s}{sup 0}{yields}D{sub s}{sup -}{pi}{sup +} and B{sub s}{sup 0}{yields}D{sub s}{sup {+-}}K{sup {+-}} decays using 23.6 fb{sup -1} of data collected at the {upsilon}(5S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB e{sup +}e{sup -} collider. This highly pure B{sub s}{sup 0}{yields}D{sub s}{sup -}{pi}{sup +} sample is used to measure the branching fraction, B(B{sub s}{sup 0}{yields}D{sub s}{sup -}{pi}{sup +})=[3.67{sub -0.33}{sup +0.35}(stat){sub -0.42}{sup +0.43}(syst){+-}0.49(f{sub s})]x10{sup -3} (f{sub s}=N{sub B{sub s}{sup (*)}B{sub s}{sup (*)}/N{sub bb}) and the fractions of B{sub s}{sup 0} event types at the {upsilon}(5S) energy, in particular N{sub B{sub s}*B{sub s}*}/N{sub B{sub s}(*)B{sub s}(*)}=(90.1{sub -4.0}{sup +3.8}{+-}0.2)%.more » We also determine the masses M(B{sub s}{sup 0})=(5364.4{+-}1.3{+-}0.7) MeV/c{sup 2} and M(B{sub s}*)=(5416.4{+-}0.4{+-}0.5) MeV/c{sup 2}. In addition, we observe B{sub s}{sup 0}{yields}D{sub s}{sup {+-}}K{sup {+-}} decays with a significance of 3.5{sigma} and measure B(B{sub s}{sup 0}{yields}D{sub s}{sup {+-}}K{sup {+-}})=[2.4{sub -1.0}{sup +1.2}(stat){+-}0.3(syst){+-}0.3(f{sub s})]x10{sup -4}.« less
  • We present a study of the D{sup +}{pi}{sup -}, D{sup 0}{pi}{sup +}, and D*{sup +}{pi}{sup -} systems in inclusive e{sup +}e{sup -}{yields}c{bar c} interactions in a search for new excited D meson states. We use a data set, consisting of {approx}454 fb{sup -1}, collected at center-of-mass energies near 10.58 GeV by the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II asymmetric-energy collider. We observe, for the first time, candidates for the radial excitations of the D{sup 0}, D*{sup 0}, and D*{sup +}, as well as the L=2 excited states of the D{sup 0} and D{sup +}, where L is the orbital angularmore » momentum of the quarks.« less
