Title: Absolute Branching Fraction Measurements for D{sup +} and D{sup 0} Inclusive Semileptonic Decays

Abstract

We present measurements of the inclusive branching fractions for the decays D{sup +}{yields}Xe{sup +}{nu}{sub e} and D{sup 0}{yields}Xe{sup +}{nu}{sub e}, using 281 pb{sup -1} of data collected on the {psi}(3770) resonance with the CLEO-c detector. We find B(D{sup 0}{yields}Xe{sup +}{nu}{sub e})=(6.46{+-}0.17{+-}0.13)% and B(D{sup +}{yields}Xe{sup +}{nu}{sub e})=(16.13{+-}0.20{+-}0.33)%. Using the known D meson lifetimes, we obtain the ratio {gamma}{sub D{sup +}}{sup sl}/{gamma}{sub D{sup 0}}{sup sl}=0.985{+-}0.028{+-}0.015, confirming isospin invariance at the level of 3%. The positron momentum spectra from D{sup +} and D{sup 0} have consistent shapes.

  • With the first data sample collected by the CLEO-c detector at the {psi}(3770) resonance we have studied four exclusive semileptonic decays of the D{sup 0} meson. Our results include the first observation and absolute branching fraction measurement for D{sup 0}{yields}{rho}{sup -}e{sup +}{nu}{sub e} and improved measurements of the absolute branching fractions for D{sup 0} decays to K{sup -}e{sup +}{nu}{sub e}, {pi}{sup -}e{sup +}{nu}{sub e}, and K*{sup -}e{sup +}{nu}{sub e}.
  • Using data collected at the {psi}(3770) resonance with the CLEO-c detector at the Cornell e{sup +}e{sup -} storage ring, we present improved measurements of the absolute branching fractions of D{sup +} decays to K{sup 0}e{sup +}{nu}{sub e}, {pi}{sup 0}e{sup +}{nu}{sub e}, K*{sup 0}e{sup +}{nu}{sub e}, and {rho}{sup 0}e{sup +}{nu}{sub e}, and the first observation and absolute branching fraction measurement of D{sup +}{yields}{omega}e{sup +}{nu}{sub e}. We also report the most precise tests to date of isospin invariance in semileptonic D{sup 0} and D{sup +} decays.
  • We measure the absolute branching fractions of D{sub s} semileptonic decays where the hadron in the final state is one of {phi}, {eta}, {eta}{sup '}, K{sub S}{sup 0}, K*{sup 0}, and f{sub 0}, using 2.8x10{sup 5} e{sup +}e{sup -}{yields}D{sub s}D{sub s}* decays collected in the CLEO-c detector at a center-of-mass energy close to 4170 MeV. We obtain B(D{sub s}{sup +}{yields}{phi}e{sup +}{nu}{sub e})=(2.29{+-}0.37{+-}0.11)%, B(D{sub s}{sup +}{yields}{eta}e{sup +}{nu}{sub e})=(2.48{+-}0.29{+-}0.13)%, B(D{sub s}{sup +}{yields}{eta}{sup '}e{sup +}{nu}{sub e})=(0.91{+-}0.33{+-}0.05)%, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. We also obtain B(D{sub s}{sup +}{yields}K{sup 0}e{sup +}{nu}{sub e})=(0.37{+-}0.10{+-}0.02)%, and B(D{sub s}{sup +}{yields}K*{sup 0}e{sup +}{nu}{sub e})=(0.18{+-}0.07{+-}0.01)%,more » which are the first measurements of Cabibbo suppressed exclusive D{sub s} semileptonic decays, and, B(D{sub s}{sup +}{yields}f{sub 0}e{sup +}{nu}{sub e})xB(f{sub 0}{yields}{pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup -})=(0.13{+-}0.04{+-}0.01)%. This is the first absolute product branching fraction determination for a semileptonic decay including a scalar meson in the final state.« less
  • We report updated branching fraction measurements of the color-suppressed decays {bar B}{sup 0} {yields} D{sup 0}{pi}{sup 0}, D*{sup 0}{pi}{sup 0}, D{sup 0}{eta}, D*{sup 0}{eta}, D{sup 0}{omega}, D*{sup 0}{omega}, D{sup 0}{eta}', and D*{sup 0}{eta}'. We measure the branching fractions (x10{sup -4}): {Beta}({bar B}{sup 0} {yields} D{sup 0}{pi}{sup 0}) = 2.69 {+-} 0.09 {+-} 0.13, {Beta}({bar B}{sup 0} {yields} D*{sup 0}{pi}{sup 0}) = 3.05 {+-} 0.14 {+-} 0.28, {Beta}({bar B}{sup 0} {yields} D{sup 0}{eta}) = 2.53 {+-} 0.09 {+-} 0.11, {Beta}({bar B}{sup 0} {yields} D*{sup 0}{eta}) = 2.69 {+-} 0.14 {+-} 0.23, {Beta}({bar B}{sup 0} {yields} D{sup 0}{omega}) = 2.57 {+-} 0.11more » {+-} 0.14, {Beta}({bar B}{sup 0} {yields} D*{sup 0}{omega}) = 4.55 {+-} 0.24 {+-} 0.39, {Beta}({bar B}{sup 0} {yields} D{sup 0}{eta}') = 1.48 {+-} 0.13 {+-} 0.07, and {Beta}({bar B}{sup 0} {yields} D*{sup 0}{eta}') = 1.49 {+-} 0.22 {+-} 0.15. We also present the first measurement of the longitudinal polarization fraction of the decay channel D*{sup 0}{omega}, f{sub L} = (66.5 {+-} 4.7 {+-} 1.5)%. In the above, the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. The results are based on a sample of (454 {+-} 5) x 10{sup 6} B{bar B} pairs collected at the {Upsilon}(4S) resonance, with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II storage rings at SLAC. The measurements are the most precise determinations of these quantities from a single experiment. They are compared to theoretical predictions obtained by factorization, Soft Collinear Effective Theory (SCET) and perturbative QCD (pQCD). We find that the presence of final state interactions is favored and the measurements are in better agreement with SCET than with pQCD.« less
  • The absolute inclusive semileptonic branching fraction of the D{sub s} meson has been measured based on 22.3 pb{sup {minus}1} of e{sup +}e{sup {minus}} collision data collected with the Beijing Spectrometer at {radical} (s) =4.03GeV. At this energy, the D{sub s} are produced in pairs: e{sup +}e{sup {minus}}{r_arrow}D{sub s}{sup +}D{sub s}{sup {minus}}. We reconstructed 171{plus_minus}21{plus_minus}15 D{sub s} events in five hadronic decay modes. In the recoil system of these events, several D{sub s} inclusive semileptonic decays were observed and the branching fraction is estimated to be B(D{sub s}{sup +}{r_arrow}e{sup +}X)=(7.7{sub {minus}4.3{minus}2.1}{sup +5.7+2.4}){percent}. {copyright} {ital 1997} {ital The American Physical Society}
