Title: Continuum Shell Model, Reactions and Giant Resonances

Abstract

We give a short review of our recent work developing the continuum shell model based on the effective non-Hermitian Hamiltonian. The unified description of discrete spectra and nuclear reactions is the main advantage of the approach. We comment on the first applications to loosely bound nuclei and pygmy resonances.
