Title: Studies of D{sub sJ}{sup (*)} Production in B Decays and e+e- {yields} cc-bar Events

Abstract

We report a study of D{sub sJ}*(2317){sup +} and DsJ(2460)+ meson production in B decays. We observe and measure branching fractions for the decays B{sup +} {yields} D{sub sJ}{sup (*)+}D-bar{sup (*)0} and B{sup 0} {yields} D{sub sJ}{sup (*)+}D-bar{sup (*)-} with the subsequent decays D{sub sJ}*(2317){sup +} {yields} D{sub s}{sup +}{pi}{sup 0}, D{sub sJ}(2460){sup +} {yields} D{sub s}*{sup +}{pi}{sup 0}, and D{sub sJ}(2460){sup +} {yields} D{sub s}{sup +}{gamma}. In addition, we perform an angular analysis of D{sub sJ}(2460){sup +} {yields} D{sub s}{sup +}{gamma} decays to test the different DsJ(2460)+ spin hypotheses.From a dataset of e+e- {yields} cc-bar events we measure the masses of the D{sub sJ}*(2317){sup +} and DsJ(2460)+ mesons and the D{sub sJ}(2460){sup +} {yields} D{sub s}{sup +}{gamma} and D{sub sJ}(2460){sup +} {yields} D{sub s}{sup +}{pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup -} branching fractions. A search is performed for neutral and doubly-charged partners.We have also searched for the D{sub sJ}*(2632){sup +} reported by the SELEX collaboration at FNAL. The resulting D{sub s}{sup +}{eta} and D0K+ mass spectra show no evidence for the D{sub sJ}*(2632){sup +} state. In addition, no signal is observed in the D*+Ks mass spectrum.All the above studies are performed on data samples collected with the BaBar detector at the SLAC PEP-IImore » B factory.« less

  • We present branching fraction measurements of 12 B meson decays of the form B{yields}D{sup (*)}D{sub s(J)}{sup (*)}. The results are based on {upsilon}(4S) decays in BB pairs. One of the B mesons is fully reconstructed and the other decays to two charm mesons, of which one is reconstructed, and the mass and momentum of the other is inferred by kinematics. Combining these results with previous exclusive branching fraction measurements, we determine B(D{sub s}{sup -}{yields}{phi}{pi}{sup -})=(4.62{+-}0.36{sub stat.}{+-}0.51{sub syst.})%, B(D{sub sJ}(2460){sup -}{yields}D{sub s}*{sup -}{pi}{sup 0})=(56{+-}13{sub stat.}{+-}9{sub syst.})% and B(D{sub sJ}(2460){sup -}{yields}D{sub s}{sup -}{gamma})=(16{+-}4{sub stat.}{+-}3{sub syst.})%.
  • A study of the D{sub sJ}*(2317){sup +} and D{sub sJ}(2460){sup +} mesons in inclusive cc production is presented using 232 fb{sup -1} of data collected by the BABAR experiment near {radical}(s)=10.6 GeV. Final states consisting of a D{sub s}{sup +} meson along with one or more {pi}{sup 0}, {pi}{sup {+-}}, or {gamma} particles are considered. Estimates of the mass and limits on the width are provided for both mesons and for the D{sub s1}(2536){sup +} meson. A search is also performed for neutral and doubly charged partners of the D{sub sJ}*(2317){sup +} meson.
  • We report the observation of a new D{sub sJ} meson produced in B{sup +}{yields}D{sup 0}D{sub sJ}{yields}D{sup 0}D{sup 0}K{sup +}. This state has a mass of M=2708{+-}9{sub -10}{sup +11} MeV/c{sup 2}, a width {gamma}=108{+-}23{sub -31}{sup +36} MeV/c{sup 2} and a 1{sup -} spin-parity. The statistical significance of this observation is 8.4{sigma}. The results are based on an analysis of 449x10{sup 6} BB events collected at the {upsilon}(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e{sup +}e{sup -} collider.
  • We estimate pionic decay widths of the narrow charm-strange resonances D{sub sj}(2317) and D{sub sj}(2460) using the {sup 3}P{sub 0} model. Their one-pion decays occur through {eta}-{pi}{sup 0} mixing while the two-pion decays of D{sub sj}(2460) occur through the virtual f{sub 0}(980) meson. The mixing between {sup 3}P{sub 0} and {sup 1}P{sub 1} states enhances the single-pion decay width of D{sub sj}(2460) and suppresses its double-pion decay width significantly. As a byproduct, we also calculate pionic decay widths of B{sub sj}(5765), B{sub sj}(5765) mesons in the (0{sup +},1{sup +}) heavy doublet.
