Title: Nonlinear realization of supersymmetric AdS space isometries

Abstract

The isometries of AdS{sub 5} space and supersymmetric AdS{sub 5}xS{sub 1} space are nonlinearly realized on four-dimensional Minkowski space. The resultant effective actions in terms of the Nambu-Goldstone modes are constructed. The dilatonic mode governing the motion of the Minkowski space probe brane into the covolume of supersymmetric AdS{sub 5} space is found to be unstable and the bulk of the AdS{sub 5} space is unable to sustain the brane. No such instability appears in the nonsupersymmetric case.

  • Coset methods are used to construct the action describing the dynamics associated with the spontaneous breaking of the local symmetries of AdS{sub d+1} space due to the embedding of an AdS{sub d} brane. The resulting action is an SO(2,d) invariant AdS form of the Einstein-Hilbert action, which in addition to the AdS{sub d} gravitational vielbein, also includes a massive vector field localized on the brane. Its long wavelength dynamics is the same as a massive Abelian vector field coupled to gravity in AdS{sub d} space.
  • Using the frame matrix representation of the Grassmann manifold, the authors derive a nonlinear realization of the general linear group. They show that its super-extension reproduces the zeta-field which appears in the recent work on a supersymmetric extension of local Lorentz symmetry by Abe and Nakanishi. This clarifies the geometrical meaning of the field zeta-field and they discuss the properties on the basis of this interpretation. The similarity of this zeta-field and the vierbein field is pointed out.
  • In this paper a study is made of those (2,0) supersymmetric non-linear sigma-models which are invariant under the action of an isometry group; this class includes the (2,0) supersymmetric Wess-Zumiono-Novikov-Witten models. If, as in the case of the WZNW model, some of the isometries are not holomorphic, then those isometries do not commute with the second supersymmetry and closing the algebra appears to give an infinite number of supersymmetries. It is shown that if any non-holomorphic isometry is accompanied by a compensating deformation of the complex structure, then the symmetry algebra closes without the need to introduce any new symmetries,more » enabling the model, together with all its symmetries, to be formulated in (2,0) superspace.« less
  • Motivated by possible applications within the framework of anti-de Sitter gravity/conformal field theory correspondence, charged black holes with AdS asymptotics, which are solutions to Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity in D dimensions, and whose electric field is described by nonlinear electrodynamics are studied. For a topological static black hole ansatz, the field equations are exactly solved in terms of the electromagnetic stress tensor for an arbitrary nonlinear electrodynamic Lagrangian in any dimension D and for arbitrary positive values of Gauss-Bonnet coupling. In particular, this procedure reproduces the black hole metric in Born-Infeld and conformally invariant electrodynamics previously found in the literature. Altogether, itmore » extends to D>4 the four-dimensional solution obtained by Soleng in logarithmic electrodynamics, which comes from vacuum polarization effects. Falloff conditions for the electromagnetic field that ensure the finiteness of the electric charge are also discussed. The black hole mass and vacuum energy as conserved quantities associated to an asymptotic timelike Killing vector are computed using a background-independent regularization of the gravitational action based on the addition of counterterms which are a given polynomial in the intrinsic and extrinsic curvatures.« less
