Order ({alpha}{sub s}{sup 2}) QCD corrections to inclusive jet production in deep inelastic scattering
Abstract
We analyze the order {alpha}{sub s}{sup 2} corrections to the single inclusive jet cross section in leptonnucleon deep inelastic scattering. The full calculation is done analytically, in the small cone approximation, obtaining finite NLO partonic level cross sections for these processes. A detailed study of the different underlying partonic reactions is presented focusing in the size of the corrections they get at NLO accuracy, their relative weight, and the residual scale uncertainty they leave in the full cross section depending on the kinematical region explored. In agreement with what has already been found in forward production of {pi}{sup 0}, we show that the dominant partonic process in very forward jet production is found to start at order {alpha}{sub s}{sup 2}, being effectively a lowest order estimate, with the consequent large factorization scale uncertainty, and the likelihood of nonnegligible corrections at the subsequent order in perturbation theory.

We examine the sensitivity of the total cross section and inclusive photon distributions for the reaction [ital p]+[ital [bar p]][r arrow][ital W][sup +]+[gamma]+[ital X] to changes in the QCD renormalization scale, mass factorization scale, and mass factorization scheme in [ital O]([alpha][sub [ital s]]). Based on these findings, a higherorder[alpha][sub [ital s]] approximation prescription is proposed and, by readjusting the QCD mass factorization and renormalization scales, [ital O]([alpha][sub [ital s]][sup 2]) predictions are obtained for the reaction cross sections and inclusive photon distributions for the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron (S[ital p[bar p]]S) ([radical][ital S] =0.63 TeV) and Fermilab Tevatron ([radical][ital S]more »

Twojet production in hadron collisions at order [alpha][sub [ital s]][sup 3] in QCD
We calculate the twojet inclusive cross section at order [alpha][sub [ital s]][sup 3] in QCD. Because the oneloop perturbative corrections are included, there is considerable improvement in theoretical accuracy compared to the Bornlevel calculation. We compare the predicted dependence of the cross section on the jetjet scattering angle [eta][sub 1][minus][eta][sub 2] to data from the CDF collaboration. We also discuss the dependence of the cross section on the jetjet mass.
Complete quartic (. alpha. sub s sup 2 ) correction to the deepinelastic longitudinal structure function F sub L in QCD
The analytic nexttoleadingorder correction ({ital O}({alpha}{sub {ital s}}{sup 2})) to the longitudinal structure function in QCD is presented in the form of kernels that give {ital F}{sub {ital L}} after convolution with the partonic densities. This final complete result, which corrects previous partial calculations, can be easily used for phenomenological applications, which are briefly discussed.
QCD corrections from the top quark to relations between electroweak parameters up to order {alpha}{sup 2}{sub {ital s}}
The vacuum polarization functions {Pi}({ital q}{sup 2}) of charged and neutral gauge bosons that arise from top and bottom quark loops lead to important shifts in relations between electroweak parameters that can be measured with everincreasing precision. The large mass of the top quark allows approximation of these functions through the first two terms of an expansion in {ital M}{sup 2}{sub {ital Z}}/{ital M}{sup 2}{sub {ital t}}. The first three terms of the Taylor series of {Pi}({ital q}{sup 2}) are evaluated analytically up to order {alpha}{sup 2}{sub {ital s}}.
