Title: Measurements of neutral B decay branching fractions to K{sub S}{sup 0}{pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup -} final states and the charge asymmetry of B{sup 0}{yields}K*{sup +}{pi}{sup -}

Abstract

We analyze the decay B{sup 0}{yields}K{sub S}{sup 0}{pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup -} using a sample of 232x10{sup 6} {upsilon}(4S){yields}BB decays collected with the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II asymmetric-energy B factory. A maximum likelihood fit finds the following branching fractions: B(B{sup 0}{yields}K{sup 0}{pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup -})=(43.0{+-}2.3{+-}2.3)x10{sup -6}, B(B{sup 0}{yields}f{sub 0}({yields}{pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup -})K{sup 0})=(5.5{+-}0.7{+-}0.5{+-}0.3)x10{sup -6} and B(B{sup 0}{yields}K*{sup +}{pi}{sup -})=(11.0{+-}1.5{+-}0.5{+-}0.5)x10{sup -6}. For these results, the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is systematic, and the third (if present) is due to the effect of interference from other resonances. We also measure the CP-violating charge asymmetry in the decay B{sup 0}{yields}K*{sup +}{pi}{sup -}, A{sub K*{pi}}=-0.11{+-}0.14{+-}0.05.

  • Branching fraction measurements using B-meson decays to K{sub S}{sup 0}{pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup -} are presented. These measurements were obtained by analyzing a data sample of 88.9x10{sup 6} {upsilon}(4S){yields}BB-bar decays collected with the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II asymmetric-energy B factory. Using a maximum likelihood fit, the following branching fraction results were obtained: B(B{sup 0}{yields}K{sup 0}{pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup -})=(43.7{+-}3.8{+-}3.4)x10{sup -6}, B(B{sup 0}{yields}K*{sup +}{pi}{sup -})=(12.9{+-}2.4{+-}1.4)x10{sup -6}, and B(B{sup 0}{yields}D{sup -}({yields}K{sub S}{sup 0}{pi}{sup -}){pi}{sup +})=(42.7{+-}2.1{+-}2.2)x10{sup -6}. The CP violating charge asymmetry A{sub K*{pi}} for the decay B{sup 0}{yields}K*{sup +}{pi}{sup -} was measured to be A{sub K*{pi}}=0.23{+-}0.18{sub -0.06}{sup +0.09}.   • Using 355 pb{sup -1} of data collected by the CDF II detector in pp collisions at {radical}(s)=1.96 TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron, we study the fully reconstructed hadronic decays B{sub (s)}{sup 0}{yields}D{sub (s)}{sup -}{pi}{sup +} and B{sub (s)}{sup 0}{yields}D{sub (s)}{sup -}{pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup -}. We present the first measurement of the ratio of branching fractions B(B{sub s}{sup 0}{yields}D{sub s}{sup -}{pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup -})/B(B{sup 0}{yields}D{sup -}{pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup -})=1.05{+-}0.10(stat){+-}0.22(syst). We also update our measurement of B(B{sub s}{sup 0}{yields}D{sub s}{sup -}{pi}{sup +})/B(B{sup 0}{yields}D{sup -}{pi}{sup +}) to 1.13{+-}0.08(stat){+-}0.23(syst), improving the statistical uncertainty by more than a factor of 2. We find B(B{sub s}{supmore » 0}{yields}D{sub s}{sup -}{pi}{sup +})=[3.8{+-}0.3(stat){+-}1.3(syst)]x10{sup -3} and B(B{sub s}{sup 0}{yields}D{sub s}{sup -}{pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup -})=[8.4{+-}0.8(stat){+-}3.2(syst)]x10{sup -3}.« less
  • Branching fraction measurements of charmless B{sup 0}{yields}K*{sup 0}h{sub 1}{sup +}h{sub 2}{sup -} (h{sub 1,2}=K, {pi}) decays are presented, using a data sample of 383x10{sup 6} {upsilon}(4S){yields}BB decays collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B-meson factory at SLAC. The results are B(B{sup 0}{yields}K*{sup 0}K{sup +}K{sup -})=(27.5{+-}1.3{+-}2.2)x10{sup -6}, B(B{sup 0}{yields}K*{sup 0}{pi}{sup +}K{sup -})=(4.6{+-}1.1{+-}0.8)x10{sup -6}, and B(B{sup 0}{yields}K*{sup 0}{pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup -})=(54.5{+-}2.9{+-}4.3)x10{sup -6}. The first errors quoted are statistical and the second are systematic. An upper limit is set for B(B{sup 0}{yields}K*{sup 0}K{sup +}{pi}{sup -})<2.2x10{sup -6} at 90% confidence level. We also present measurements of CP-violating asymmetries for the observed decays.
  • We present improved measurements of the branching fractions for the decays B{sup 0}{yields}D{sub s}{sup +}{pi}{sup -} and B{sup 0}{yields}D{sub s}{sup +}K{sup -} using a data sample of 657x10{sup 6} BB events collected at the {Upsilon}(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e{sup +}e{sup -} collider. The results are B(B{sup 0}{yields}D{sub s}{sup +}{pi}{sup -})=(1.99{+-}0.26{+-}0.18)x10{sup -5} and B(B{sup 0}{yields}D{sub s}{sup +}K{sup -})=(1.91{+-}0.24{+-}0.17)x10{sup -5}, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. Based on these results, we determine the ratio between amplitudes of the doubly Cabibbo suppressed decay B{sup 0}{yields}D{sup +}{pi}{sup -} and the Cabibbo favored decay B{sup 0}{yields}D{sup -}{pi}{supmore » +}, R{sub D}{pi}=[1.71{+-}0.11(stat){+-}0.09(syst){+-}0.02(theo)]%, where the last term denotes the theory error.« less
  • We report an observation of the decay B{sub s}{sup 0}{yields}D{sub s}{sup -}{pi}{sup +} in pp collisions at {radical}(s)=1.96 TeV using 115 pb{sup -1} of data collected by the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. We observe 83{+-}11(stat) B{sub s}{sup 0}{yields}D{sub s}{sup -}{pi}{sup +} candidates, representing a large increase in statistics over previous measurements and the first observation of this decay at a pp collider. We present the first measurement of the relative branching fraction B(B{sub s}{sup 0}{yields}D{sub s}{sup -}{pi}{sup +})/B(B{sup 0}{yields}D{sup -}{pi}{sup +})=1.32{+-}0.18(stat){+-}0.38(syst). We also measure B(B{sup +}{yields}D{sup 0}{pi}{sup +})/B(B{sup 0}{yields}D{sup -}{pi}{sup +})=1.97{+-}0.10(stat){+-}0.21(syst), which is consistent with previous measurements.
