Title: AdS3 Solutions of IIB Supergravity

Abstract

We consider pure D3-brane configurations of IIB string theory which lead to supergravity solutions containing an AdS3 factor. They can provide new examples of AdS3/CFT2 examples on D3-branes whose worldvolume is partially compactified. When the internal 7 dimensional space is non-compact, they are related to fluctuations of higher dimensional AdS/CFT duality examples, thus dual to the BPS operators of D = 4 superconformal field theories. We find that supersymmetry requires the 7 dimensional space is warped Hopf-fibration of (real) 6 dimensional Kahler manifolds.

  • For every positively curved Kaehler-Einstein manifold in four dimensions, we construct an infinite family of supersymmetric solutions of type IIB supergravity. The solutions are warped products of AdS{sub 3} with a compact seven-dimensional manifold and have nonvanishing five-form flux. Via the anti-de Sitter/conformal field theory correspondence, the solutions are dual to two-dimensional conformal field theories with (0,2) supersymmetry. The corresponding central charges are rational numbers.
  • We show that generic supersymmetric 5D anti-de Sitter solutions of type IIB supergravity admit a canonical contact structure. This structure determines the central charge of the dual field theory and the conformal dimension of operators dual to supersymmetric wrapped D3-branes. Hence both quantities can be calculated using incomplete information about the solutions, allowing us to prove that they are rational numbers for solutions with a U(1) R symmetry, in agreement with field theory expectations. We also discuss related Duistermaat-Heckman integrals and localization formulas.
  • All cubic couplings in type IIB supergravity on AdS{sub 5}xS{sup 5} that involve two scalar fields s{sup I} that are mixtures of the five form field strength on S{sup 5} and the trace of the graviton on S{sup 5} are derived by using the covariant equations of motion and the quadratic action for type IIB supergravity on AdS{sub 5}xS{sup 5}. All corresponding three-point functions in SYM{sub 4} are calculated in the supergravity approximation.   • In a previous paper 1 we constructed wave functions of a D-instanton and vertex operators in type IIB matrix model by expanding supersymmetric Wilson line operators. They describe couplings of a D-instanton and type IIB matrix model to the massless closed string fields, respectively, and form a multiplet of D=10 N=2 supersymmetries. In this paper we consider fermionic backgrounds and condensation of supergravity fields in IIB matrix model by using these wave functions. We start from the type IIB matrix model in a flat background whose matrix size is (N+1)x(N+1), or equivalently the effective action for (N+1) D-instantons. We thenmore » calculate an effective action for N D-instantons by integrating out 1 D-instanton (which we call a mean-field D-instanton) with an appropriate wave function and show that various terms can be induced corresponding to the choice of the wave functions. In particular, a Chern-Simons-like term is induced when the mean-field D-instanton has a wave function of the antisymmetric tensor field. A fuzzy sphere becomes a classical solution to the equation of motion for the effective action. We also give an interpretation of the above wave functions in the superstring theory side as overlaps of the D-instanton boundary state with the closed string massless states in the Green-Schwarz formalism.« less
  • We examine the question of the supersymmetric completion of the R{sup 4} term in type IIB supergravity by using superfield methods. We show that, while there is an obstruction to constructing the full action, a subset of the terms in the action can be consistently analyzed independent of the other terms, and these can be obtained from the superfield. We find the complete type IIB action involving the curvature and five-form field strengths.
