Title: The Influence of Physical-Chemical Characteristics of Plasma-Forming Gas and Macroparticle Matter in Complex Plasma on Ordered Structure Self-Organization

Abstract

The influence of physical-chemical characteristics of plasma-forming gas as well as macroparticle matter, sizes and shapes on ordered dusty structures in complex plasmas was established. We have studied processes of dusty structure growth in argon, neon for Zn and Al2O3 macroparticles at the identical plasma conditions and dependencies of structure parameters on discharge current were defined. In these experiments were shown that mean interparticle distances remain constant during the process of structure growth. Dependencies of volume change (Al2O3, Zn macroparticles) on injection number and discharge current value in Ne, Ar were analyzed.

  • The influence of the complex structure of the gain line of the Nd{sup 3+} ions in a YAG crystal on the operational characteristics of a ring laser in a self-modulation type I regime was investigated. It was found that preferential suppression of the wave propagating in the direction of the laser rotation can be accounted for by the presence of the imaginary component of the optical-wave gain at the frequency corresponding to the gain maximum. • The paper discusses current filamentation and formation of current structures (in particular, hexagonal current patterns) in discharges of the Townsend and glow types. The aim of the paper, which is in part a review, is to reveal basic reasons for formation of current patterns in different cases, namely, in dielectric barrier discharge, discharge with semiconductor cathode, and micro-discharge between metallic electrodes. Pursuing this goal, we give a very brief review of observations and discuss only those theoretical, computational, and experimental papers that shed light on the physical mechanisms involved. The mechanisms are under weak currents—the thermal expansion of the gasmore » as a result of Joule heating; under enhanced currents—the electric field and ionization rate redistribution induced by space charge. Both mechanisms lead to instability of the homogeneous discharges. In addition, we present new results of numerical simulations of observed short-living current filaments which are chaotic in space and time.« less
  • Radioactively contaminated sewage, as it is found in practice, can often be decontaminated only poorly, if at all, by chemical precipitation, in contrast to laboratory experiments. A number of detergents and complex-forming compounds were examined in regard to their influence on the decontamination of radioactive sewage. It was found that this method is easily disturbed by the presence of even very slight traces of complex-forming compounds such as tartaric acid, citric acid, EDTA and other chelating agents, while other commercial detergents had no appreciable negative influence on the precipitation method. The results of the laboratory experiments were confirmed by extensivemore » experiments on a pilot- plant scale. (auth)« less
  • Motion of Al{sub 2}O{sub 3} macroparticles are experimental studied in a dusty structure. Structures form in a stratum of an argon dc glow discharge in a cylindrical tube (O 30{+-}2 mm)
  • A combinatorial-topological analysis of the La{sub 3}Ga{sup [6]}Ga{sub 4}{sup [4]}Ge{sup [4]}O{sub 14} and La{sub 3}Ge{sup [6]}Ge{sub 2}{sup [5]}Ge{sub 2}{sup [4]}Ga{sup [4]}O{sub 16} gallogermanates, which have MT and MPT microporous frameworks composed of M octahedra (GeO{sub 6}, GaO{sub 6}), T tetrahedra (GeO{sub 4}, GaO{sub 4}), and P pyramids (GeO{sub 5}), is performed using the method of coordination sequences with the TOPOS 3.2 program package. It is established that the La{sub 3}Ga{sup [6]}Ga{sub 4}{sup [4]}Ge{sup [4]}O{sub 14} gallogermanate is characterized by a crystal-forming net 6 6 6 (of the graphite type). A new type of the binodal net 6 10 1 0more » + 6 10 (2: 1) is revealed in the La{sub 3}Ge{sup [6]}Ge{sub 2}{sup [5]}Ge{sub 2}{sup [4]}Ga{sup [4]}O{sub 16} gallogermanate. The cyclic cluster precursors composed of six polyhedra with a lanthanum template atom at the center of the LaMT{sub 5} and LaMP{sub 3}T{sub 3} clusters are identified by the two-color decomposition of the nets in the structures of the La{sub 3}Ga{sup [6]}Ga{sub 4}{sup [4]}Ge{sup [4]}O{sub 14} and La{sub 3}Ge{sup [6]}Ge{sub 2}{sup [5]}Ge{sub 2}{sup [4]}Ga{sup [4]}O{sub 16} gallogermanates. The coordination numbers of the cluster precursors in these structures are found to be equal to 6 and 4 for two-dimensional nets and 8 and 6 for three-dimensional nets, respectively.« less
