The standard model suffers from the hierarchy problem and the flavor problem. Various extensions have been proposed to alleviate these problems, supersymmetry and U(2) flavor symmetry being among them. Flavor changing neutral current rare decay modes of the B-meson is an excellent probe of such extensions. Recent preliminary data from the B-factories indicate that the CP asymmetry in b {yields} s penguin modes has a discrepancy with standard model predictions, and if established to a higher confidence level would indicate new physics beyond the standard model. We show that a supersymmetric U(2) flavor model can explain such a discrepancy, while being consistent with all other K and B-meson data.
