Enhancement of magnetic properties of Fe{sub 3}B/Nd{sub 2}Fe{sub 14}B magnet by the addition of Co
The addition of Co was found to enhance the magnetic properties of Fe{sub 3}B/Nd{sub 2}Fe{sub 14}B nanocomposite magnets by evaluating Nd{sub 4}Fe{sub 77.5{minus}x}Co{sub x}(HfGa){sub y}B{sub 18.5} (0 {le} x {le} 5, 0 {le} y {le} 0.5). The enhancements were resulted from the fact that the Co addition retarded the crystallization of a-Fe and Fe{sub 3}B and accelerated that of Nd{sub 2}Fe{sub 14}B. The decreased interval between the crystallization temperature of Fe{sub 3}B and Nd{sub 2}Fe{sub 14}B enabled the grain growth of each phase to be uniform during post annealing of the melt spun ribbons. The addition of Co from 3 to 5 wt.% increased the coercivity ({sub i}H{sub c}) from 3.27 to 3.54 kOe with the enhanced remanence (4 {pi} M{sub r}) around 11.54 kG. By the optimized processing for the nanocomposite magnets of Nd{sub 4}Fe{sub 71.5}Co{sub 5}Hf{sub 0.5}Ga{sub 0.05}B{sub 18.5} ribbons spun at 26 m/sec and magnetization annealing at 680 C for 10 min, the magnetic properties of B{sub r} = 11.54 kG, {sub i}H{sub c} = 3.54 kOe and (BH){sub max} = 14.35 MGOe were obtained from volume production line.
