Intramolecular frustrated Lewis pair mediated approach to the C✔O bond activation and cleavage of carbon dioxide

A remarkably stable FLP-CO2adduct smoothly reacts with Tf2O to undergo C–O bond cleavage with the formation of the formal FLP adduct of the elusive dication C2O32+.
