The synthesis and characterization of the new pincer-supported CoII organometallic complexes (iPrPNP)CoII(Me) and (iPrPNP)CoII(Ph) (iPrPNP- = N{CH2CH2(P(iPr)2)}2-) is reported. These complexes were prepared through the treatment of (iPrPNP)CoII(Cl) with MeMgCl or PhMgBr, respectively. Additionally, the κ2-BH4 species (iPrPNP)CoII(κ2-BH4) was synthesized through the reaction of (iPrPNP)CoII(Cl) with nBu4NBH4. The related CoI complex (iPrPNP)CoI(2,6-xylyl isonitrile) was prepared through the reaction of the known complex (iPrPNP)CoI(N2) with 2,6-xylyl isonitrile. The stoichiometric and catalytic activity of the new CoI and CoII complexes with CO2 and formic acid was evaluated.
