Relative effectiveness of an α-weighted Transition Rate Matrix Method (TRMM) as compared to the normally used κ- weighted, for solving reactor transient problem is investigated. An improved Monte Carlo κ-α iteration with delayed neutron is implemented to the OpenMC to generate the fundamental α-eigenfunction to be used as the weighting function in calculating the TRMM forward and adjoint operators. A prompt supercritical transient problem and a deep subcritical transient problem of a two-region slab system are devised to compare the relative performance of the α- and κ-weighted TRMM.
