The minimal supersymmetric (SUSY) SO(10) model, where only two Higgs multiplets {l_brace}10 Circled-Plus 126-bar{r_brace} are utilized for Yukawa couplings with matter fields, can nicely fit the neutrino oscillation parameters as well as charged fermion masses and mixing angles. New smooth hybrid inflation

We consider the extension of the supersymmetric Pati-Salam model which solves the b-quark mass problem of supersymmetric grand unified models with exact Yukawa unification and universal boundary conditions and leads to the so-called new shifted hybrid inflationary scenario. We show that this model can also lead to a new version of smooth hybrid inflation based only on renormalizable interactions provided that a particular parameter of its superpotential is somewhat small. The potential possesses valleys of minima with classical inclination, which can be used as inflationary paths. We discuss the smooth hybrid inflation scenario in the context of a simple supersymmetric SO(10) grand unified theory (GUT) in a 5D orbifold. In this GUT model, the SO(10) gauge symmetry is broken down to the Pati-Salam (PS) gauge group, SU(4){sub c} Multiplication-Sign SU(2){sub L} Multiplication-Sign SU(2){sub R}, by means of orbifold boundary conditions, and all matter and Higgs multiplets are placed only on the brane (PS brane) where only the PS symmetry is manifest. Tying in CP and flavor violations with fermion masses and neutrino oscillations

In this paper we explore the possibility that (a) fermion masses, (b) neutrino oscillations, (c) CP nonconservation, and (d) flavor violations get intimately linked to each other within supersymmetric grand unification based on SO(10) or an effective G(224)=SU(2){sub L}xSU(2){sub R}xSU(4){sup c} symmetry. We extend the framework proposed previously by Babu, Pati, and Wilczek which successfully described fermion masses and neutrino oscillations, to include CP violation. Assuming flavor universal SUSY-breaking parameters at M* > or approx. We consider the extended supersymmetric Pati-Salam model which, for {mu}>0 and universal boundary conditions, succeeds to yield experimentally acceptable b-quark masses by moderately violating Yukawa unification. It is known that this model can lead to new shifted or new smooth hybrid inflation. We show that a successful two-stage inflationary scenario can be realized within this model based only on renormalizable superpotential interactions. The cosmological scales exit the horizon during the first stage of inflation, which is of the standard hybrid type and takes place along the trivial flat direction with the inflaton driven by radiative corrections.
