US ITER, with General Atomics and other industry partners, is now fabricating the heart of the ITER tokamak: The 60 foot tall central solenoid. This massive electromagnet will initiate and maintain plasma current in the international ITER fusion reactor now under construction in France. ITER is the first fusion device designed to produce a burning plasma--an essential step for fusion energy development. This short offers an inside view of the action at the GA Magnet Technologies Center in California where the central solenoid modules are being produced.
