Preliminary Material Requirement for the Supplementary Shielding at NSLS-II
- Brookhaven National Lab. (BNL), Upton, NY (United States)
The dominant mode of operation at NSLS2 is assumed to be the TopUp injection (approximately one injection per minute for the storage ring life time of 2 hours). Concrete bulk shielding of the accelerator enclosures is derived from the beam loss assumptions for this mode of operation unless stated otherwise. All major loss points inside the accelerator enclosures are shielded at 90° for 1 Hz injection through the use of supplemental lead shields. Supplemental lead shielding is also provided for all forward directed bremsstrahlung which can strike a concrete bulk shield.
