Title: Reliable and Low Cost Monolayer Backsheet for cSi Solar Modules

Abstract

The main purpose of this project was to develop a low cost single layer white and clear polymeric backsheet material for use in silicon PV modules. The cost savings to end users would be impactful, as the PV component market strives to reduce costs while continuing to meet increasingly stringent reliability requirements and disposal concerns.The importance of developing a white backsheet that is cost-effective, recyclable, and reliable is evident in the current market; moreover, the increased availability and use of bifacial cells is bound to increase the demand for transparent backsheets in future markets as well. Today, the cost of a clear backsheet is significantly higher than a white backsheet which provides additional motivation for research and development of new material options in the PV backsheet field.
