This plan was developed by the Microbiome Interagency Working Group (MIWG), an interagency working group under the Life Sciences Subcommittee (LSSC) of the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) Committee on Science (CoS). The MIWG is a successor to the Fast Track Action Committee on Mapping the Microbiome (FTAC-MM).

Ten years ago, on April 9, 1984, the Science Advisor to the President, and Director of the Office of Science and Technology Policy, established the Committee on Interagency Radiation Research and Policy Coordination (CIRRPC) to meet the need for an interagency committee to address Congressionally mandated and agency-identified issues related to radiation research and policy.
