The Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) and our partners, I-GO Carshare and the Chicago Department of Fleet and Facility Management teamed up in support of our mutual goal of advancing the local electric vehicle market and demonstrating electrification of fleet vehicles. By increasing the use of electric and hybrid-electric vehicles this project provides a public benefit by reducing harmful emissions and the transportation sector’s dependence on petroleum in Chicago. The Chicago Climate Action Plan (CCAP) is the climate change mitigation and adaptation strategy adopted by the City of Chicago (City). CCAP calls for improved fleet efficiency, reduced fossil fuel use, and encourages vehicle electrification to reduce emissions from the transportation sector. Alternative fuels and advanced vehicle technologies play a critical role in helping the City achieve CCAP’s goals. In fact, CCAP calls for a 10 percent increase in the use of alternative fuel vehicles in Chicago by 2020.
