The 12C(d,n)13N Diagnostic and the Need to Re-measure the Cross Section

We discuss the importance of the 12C(d,n)13N mix diagnostics at NIF and show how this reaction can be used to determine the fraction of the 79Kr signal produced by knock-on deuterons in bromine doped CH ablator capsules. We point out that current cross section measurements are discrepant with one another, by about a factor of two. We propose a new method for measuring this cross section, including a technique for uncovering the possible source of the current discrepancy.
