Title: Quasielastic scattering of {sup 12,14}Be on {sup 12}C

Abstract

The quasielastic scattering of the exotic neutron-drip-line nucleus {sup 14}Be on a {sup 12}C target has been studied at an incident energy of 796 MeV, and compared with that of the {sup 12}Be ``core`` at the same energy per nucleon. Evidence is presented that the phenomenological optical-model potential for the former system requires an attractive real surface term, as well as the ``expected`` surface imaginary term, in order to reproduce the experimental angular distribution.
