Title: Absence of anomalous entrance channel effects in sub-barrier heavy ion fusion

Abstract

Fusion cross sections and gamma ray multiplicities have been measured for the {sup 28}Si+{sup 142}Ce, {sup 32}S+{sup 138}Ba, and {sup 48}Ti+{sup 122}Sn entrance channels leading to the {sup 170}Hf compound nucleus. The mean spins deduced from the gamma multiplicities do not show any anomalous behavior as observed in some other measurements.
