Title: User Guide for the Plotting Software for the Los Alamos National Laboratory Nuclear Weapons Analysis Tools Version 2.0

Abstract

The Los Alamos National Laboratory Plotting Software for the Nuclear Weapons Analysis Tools is a Java™ application based upon the open source library JFreeChart. The software provides a capability for plotting data on graphs with a rich variety of display options while allowing the viewer interaction via graph manipulation and scaling to best view the data. The graph types include XY plots, Date XY plots, Bar plots and Histogram plots.

  • The research report, which updates Research Report 1279-2, is a user`s guide with operating instructions for each program. The mainframe programs were developed to estimate mobile source emissions and vehicle miles traveled (VMT). The PREPIN program allows the analyst to factor a 24-hour assignment to estimate the VMT and speeds for a subject time period. The POLFAC5A program is used to apply MOBILE5a to obtain emission factors without HC species. The POLFAC5B program is used to apply MOBILE5a to obtain emission factors including HC species. The COADJ is used to add two set of emission factors and subtract a thirdmore » set of emission factors from the POLFAC5A program to produce a combined set of emission factors. RATEADJ, a special utility program, combines emission factors from three applications of the POLFAC5B program to produce a new set of emission factors. IMPSUMA facilities the computation of emissions by using the emission factors from POLFAC5B and RATEADJ. SUMALLA sums the emission results from two or more time periods plus diurnals. IMPSUMA and SUMALLA have the additional capability of producing gridded emission estimates by vehicle type. A microcomputer program, JCFBATCH, was added to document POLFAC5B, IMPSUMA, SUMALLA, RATEADJ, and VMTSUM runs on the microcomputer and to make these runs easier.« less
  • The on-site inspection provisions in many current and proposed arms control agreements require extensive preparation and training on the part of both the Inspection Teams (inspectors) and Inspected Parties (hosts). Traditional training techniques include lectures, table-top inspections, and practice inspections. The Augmented Computer Exercise for Inspection Training (ACE-IT), an interactive computer training tool, increases the utility of table-top inspections. ACE-IT is used for training both inspectors and hosts to conduct a hypothetical challenge inspection under the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC). The training covers the entire sequence of events in the challenge inspection regime, from initial notification of an inspection throughmore » post-inspection activities. The primary emphasis of the training tool is on conducting the inspection itself, and in particular, implementing the concept of managed access. (Managed access is a technique used to assure the inspectors that the facility is in compliance with the CWC, while at the same time protecting sensitive information unrelated to the CWC.) Information for all of the activities is located in the electronic {open_quotes}Exercise Manual.{close_quotes} In addition, interactive menus are used to negotiate access to each room and to alternate information during the simulated inspection.   • The Common Mapping Standard (CMS) Data Production System (CDPS) produces and distributes CMS data in compliance with the Common Mapping Standard Interface Control Document. CDPS is composed of two subsystems, the CMS Preprocessing Subsystem (CPS) and the CMS Distribution Subsystem (CDS). This guide describes the operation of CPS. CPS is responsible for the management of source data and the production of CMS data from source data. The CPS system was developed for use on a workstation running Ultrix 4.2, the X Window System Version X11R4, and motif Version 1.1.
