Title: Electromechanical Batteries: Final Report CRADA No. TC-0573-93

Abstract

The purpose of this CRADA was to design, fabricate, and demonstrate an Electromechanical Battery (EMB) which would provide ride-through capability for the Westinghouse Active Power Line Conditioner (APLC) application. The project had three primary goals: To design, develop, and demonstrate a modular electromechanical battery, based on approaches pioneered at LLNL. This would be integrated into an APLC developed by Westinghouse. To provide Westinghouse with the know-how necessary to control the recharge of the EMB and the transfer of power from the EMB. To provide Trinity with the know how necessary to manufacture LLNL developed EMB's for this and other applications. As part of this project, Trinity and Westinghouse proposed to demonstrate this technology in a commercial application.
