Title: Direct coupling of tomography and ptychography

Abstract

We present a generalization of the ptychographic phase problem for recovering refractive properties of a three-dimensional object in a tomography setting. Our approach, which ignores the lateral overlapping probe requirements in existing ptychography algorithms, can enable the reconstruction of objects using highly flexible acquisition patterns and pave the way for sparse and rapid data collection with lower radiation exposure.

  • The benefit of direct coupling of APT with TEM dark field imaging to investigate early stages of phase transformation in multicomponent alloys is demonstrated by analyzing alpha phase precipitated in a model Ti-10 at% Mo-10 at% Al alloy during annealing at 400oC. Through such a direct coupling approach a thermodynamically unexpected solute partitioning trend between beta matrix and alpha precipitate is observed in the early stages of precipitation, which is explained based on possible nucleation of alpha phase in the Ti rich (Mo and Al depleted regions) created as a result of phase separation in beta matrix. On further highermore » temperature annealing at 600oC for 1 hour, the alpha precipitates were shown to grow and get enriched in Al and further depleted in Mo reaching the thermodynamic equilibrium.« less
  • The direct spin-spin coupling constants in the vinyl group were measured in 100 mono-substituted ethylene derivatives. The inductive effect of the substituent was found to be the major factor in the variation of this constant and, in some cases, the stereospecific effect of the unshared electron pairs of heteratoms makes a significant contribution to the /sup 13/C-/sup 13/C coupling constants.
  • Using the oxygen 15 continuous-inhalation technique and positron emission tomography (PET), the regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF), oxygen extraction fraction (rOEF) and oxygen utilization (rCMRO2) were measured in 19 control subjects. The rCBF and rCMRO2 values, computed for small regions of interest (ROI), were within accepted normal ranges. Larger, more convenient ROI provided values for gray and white matter regions that were, respectively, lower and higher than those found using small ROI. The rOEF values were not affected by the ROI size, but seemed to slightly overestimate real OEF. These findings may be explained by (1) the partial volume effect,more » and (2) some limitations of the 15O steady state model. The 15O-PET technique therefore provides representative but clinically useful physiological indexes. In addition, our study demonstrated the normal coupling between local oxygen supply and demand.« less
  • The authors performed direct sagittal computed tomography (CT) on 4 cadaver temporomandibular joints (TMJ) and examined 51 TMJs in 47 patients clinically. The results were correlated with cadaver anatomical sections and clinical arthrographic findings. A fat plane between the bellies of the lateral pterygoid muscles, termed the ''lateral pterygoid fat pad,'' served as the anatomical basis for detection of internal derangements by CT. CT was 94% accurate in detecting meniscal derangements and 96% accurate in detecting degenerative arthritis.
