Title: La Cumbre Update: Motivation, Objectives, and Progress

Abstract

We have completed implementation of a laser package in LANL's principal AGEX design code, Cassio. Although we have greatly improved our target characterization and uncertainty quantification, we remain unable to satisfactorily simulate the NIF Pleiades data.

  • The critical path approach to heavy metals (HM) released from fossil-fuelled power plants (FFPP) into the environment takes account of: (1) emission into the atmosphere; (2) ash pond-water discharge; (3) other waste water discharges; (4) coal pile run-off; (5) disposal of fly-ash and bottom ash. Direct impact on the FFPP area and indirect impact at a distance are distinguished, and atmospheric, hydrological and terrestrial dispersion models are proposed. An ecological effects model is needed to assess the bioenvironmental effects. The final objective is to set limits to the emission of HM into the environment.
  • This report describes the water quality within the Fraser River from Hope to the river mouth, using data collected from 1985 to June 1994. Introductory sections review Fraser River water quality objectives, watershed characteristics, sources of contaminants, hydrology, and water uses in the watershed. Section 4 details permitted waste discharges, by source, divided into six sections of the river. Section 5 examines non-point source discharges from such sectors as forestry, agriculture, urban runoff, sewage, dredging, and shipping. Section 6 presents ambient water quality data and proposed water quality objectives, arranged by section of the river. Information is given on watermore » and sediment chemistry, and on analyses of benthic invertebrates and fish. Appendices include a glossary and a summary of comments received in a Fraser River water quality and recreational use survey.« less

  • This report is an integral part of the documentation system of the Fossil Energy Program of the Department of Energy. It contains descriptions of each contract and project, arranged in conformance with planning and budgetary documents.
