Status of regulation and standards for pressure vessels in Japan

The structure of the Japanese regulatory authorities will be reviewed. The relationship between the Japanese regulations and the JIS standards for pressure vessels will be explained. The new pressure vessel standard JIS B8270 ``Basic Requirements of Pressure Vessels`` and related JIS standards will be described. Activities of MITI and JPVRC for development, simplification, and improvement of Japanese pressure vessel regulations and standards, and their relation to ASME and ISO Codes and Standard Committees will be discussed.
