Title: Composite cam carrier

Abstract

A cam carrier assembly includes a cylinder head having valves and a camshaft having lobes. A cam carrier has a first side coupled with the cylinder head engaging around the valves and a second side with bearing surfaces supporting the camshaft. A series of apertures extend between the first and second sides for the lobes to interface with the valves. The cam carrier is made of carbon fiber composite insulating the camshaft from the cylinder head and providing substantial weight reduction to an upper section of an associated engine.

  • A cam carrier assembly includes a body made of a material lighter than aluminum. The body has a first side operably coupled with a cylinder head and a second side having bearing surfaces with bearing inserts. The bearing inserts support the camshaft. A series of apertures extend between the first and second sides of the body. Lobes of the camshaft operably couple with the valves of the cylinder head through the series of apertures extending between the first and second sides of the body.
  • Desulfurization of a sulfurous hydrocarbon distillate containing a mono-olefinic hydrocarbons and aromatics is carried out by reacting the distillate with hydrogen in contact with a catalyst composite of a carrier, a platinum or palladium component, a rhodium component and a tin component. The carrier may be alumina, alumina--boria, silica--alumina, chromia--alumina, alumina--silica--boron phosphate or crystalline aluminosilicate.
  • A composite carrier bar is disclosed for oil well pumping units that utilize sucker rod to operate bottom hole pumps. The bar includes a recessed cavity for receiving a hydraulic ram to operate as a polish rod jack and also a secondary carrier bar for receiving a secondary polish rod clamp for use in respacing bottom hole pumps and serve as a safety clamp during operation.
  • Sulfur-containing petroleum hydrocarbon fractions are treated at hydrodesulfurization reaction conditions in contact with a catalytic composite of a Group VIII metal or metal oxide, a Group VIB metal or metal oxide, and an alumina support or carrier material. The alumina carrier material is characterized by a method of preparation which results in improved hydrodesulfurization activity of the catalytic composite. The carrier material is formed by the gelation of a hydrosol prepared by dissolving a basic aluminum sulfate in an aluminum chloride hydrosol.
