  • A turbomachine combustor nozzle includes a monolithic nozzle component having a plate element and a plurality of nozzle elements. Each of the plurality of nozzle elements includes a first end extending from the plate element to a second end. The plate element and plurality of nozzle elements are formed as a unitary component. A plate member is joined with the nozzle component. The plate member includes an outer edge that defines first and second surfaces and a plurality of openings extending between the first and second surfaces. The plurality of openings are configured and disposed to register with and receivemore » the second end of corresponding ones of the plurality of nozzle elements.« less
  • A component for a turbine engine includes a substrate that includes a first surface, and an insert coupled to the substrate proximate the substrate first surface. The component also includes a channel. The channel is defined by a first channel wall formed in the substrate and a second channel wall formed by at least one coating disposed on the substrate first surface. The component further includes an inlet opening defined in flow communication with the channel. The inlet opening is defined by a first inlet wall formed in the substrate and a second inlet wall defined by the insert.
  • A pre-form CMC cavity and method of forming pre-form CMC cavity for a ceramic matrix component includes providing a mandrel, applying a base ply to the mandrel, laying-up at least one CMC ply on the base ply, removing the mandrel, and densifying the base ply and the at least one CMC ply. The remaining densified base ply and at least one CMC ply form a ceramic matrix component having a desired geometry and a cavity formed therein. Also provided is a method of forming a CMC component.
  • A silicon solar energy cell having a diffusant junction extending inwardly from one surface, an aluminum--silicon junction of the opposite polarity extending inwardly from the other surface, and a film of aluminum--oxygen--diffusant formed over the aluminum--silicon junction is described. The structure is formed by diffusing an unprotected wafer, coating the diffusant glass so formed on one side of the wafer with aluminum, and heating the wafer.
  • This patent describes a nuclear reactor component comprising a hermetically sealed metallic tube, containing a helium atmosphere and a solid material which will release tritium into the helium atmosphere during operation of the nuclear reactor; the improvement wherein the helium atmosphere has added thereto a gas selected from the group consisting of oxygen, carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide, in a minor amount effective to form an oxide layer on the inner surface of the metallic tube, to reduce permeation of tritium through the metallic tube.
