  • LLNL executed two HED Fused Silica Dome experiments as part of the complex hydrodynamics campaign on NIF. These shots assessed breakout times and velocities of shocks at five different angles separated by 45°. Each target looked at three different locations on the capsule measuring the shock breakout time and speed. The experiments used a significantly larger hohlraum and energy in the laser pulse than in previous complex hydrodynamics hohlraums. LLNL conducted a shot on NIF to continue developing a high pressure drive platform for Rayleigh-Taylor strength experiments. VISAR was the primary diagnostic and returned good quality data.
  • The fiscal year started with the Rotary Valve (RV) being reassembled after having crashed in June of 2015. The crash occurred when the RV inner surface contacted the housing. The cause of the crash was never confirmed. No particles were found in the 2.5 thousandths of an inch gap and the filters the helium gas passed through were all clean. There were marks on the bearings that looked like electrostatic discharge as shown below in Figure 1. These marks hadn’t been seen before and there were similar discharge marks on some of the ball bearings. Examples of this were foundmore » in a literature search of bearing failures. This leads to a possible cause due to this arcing affecting the rotational accuracy of the bearings driving the RV into the housing.« less
  • The Argonne Leadership Computing Facility provides supercomputing capabilities to the scientific and engineering community to advance fundamental discovery and understanding in a broad range of disciplines.
  • This fact sheet describes the tablet-based simuwatt Audit tool, which uses NREL's advanced energy modeling framework and building energy audit processes, collaboration tools, in-app media, and private company concept3D's geometric capture software combined with real-time connections to large sets of standardized data to perform building energy audits faster than traditional methods. By integrating the NREL Building Component Library, utility rates, weather information, and energy conservation measures, the tool provides investment-grade audits that cost 75% less than traditional audits and stores the data in a consistent and reusable format.
  • This document defines the elements of the OpenSHMEM Application Programming Interface. The purpose of the OpenSHMEM API is to provide programmers with a standard interface for writing parallel programs using C, C++ and Fortran with one-sided communication.
