The Materials Project

PtCl2 crystallizes in the orthorhombic Pnnm space group. The structure is one-dimensional and consists of two PtCl2 ribbons oriented in the (1, 0, 0) direction. Pt2+ is bonded in a square co-planar geometry to four equivalent Cl1- atoms. All Pt–Cl bond lengths are 2.32 Å. Cl1- is bonded in an L-shaped geometry to two equivalent Pt2+ atoms.
