  • Generalized free fields are a generalization of the free field in which the commutator is a c-number but does not satisfy a homogeneous Klein-Gordon equation. Some properties of generalized free fields are examined including the appropriate generators of the inhomogeneous Lorentz group, the number operator, spectrum, locality, and asymptotic fields. These generalized free fields are used to construct a family of local field theory models which is not unitarily equivalent to any (generalized) free field. (auth)
  • A theory of connections on a principal bundle with structure group SL(4,R), the highest-dimensional simple subgroup of the Clifford algebra associated with a space-time of signature (1,-1,-1,-1), is used to interpret Dirac's equation geometrically. The proposed theory unifies Dirac's equation with the equations of gravitation and electrodynamics. The Lorentz equation of motion for charges is a consequence of the field equations when the connection reduces to a component which may be identified as the electromagnetic field. If this part of the generalized connection does not vanish, we obtain the correct expression for the electric current in terms of spinors andmore » the correct minimal coupling in the first nonrelativistic approximation.« less
  • The frame transformation theory for diatomic molecules is generalized to the case of triatomic molecules with D/sub 3//sub h/ symmetry. Analytic expressions are formulated to explain the difference and similarity of the l-uncoupling effect in H/sub 3/ with those in H/sub 2/. An anomalous photoemission of p-Rydberg series in H/sub 3/ is predicted.
