A white pulse laser source which outputs <2 ps pulses with peak powers >1.1 W over a spectral range from 1.4 to 1.7 {mu}m is presented. It is based on supercontinuum generation in a single-mode optical fiber pumped at the near-zero-dispersion wavelength by a subpicosecond pulse from an Er{sup 3+}-doped fiber ring laser.
