A unique divinylbenzene (DVB) porous polymer is used to passively adsorb, concentrate and extract volatile and semi-volatile organics from the soil vapor space around underground storage tanks (USTs). The polymer acts as a passive sampling tool, with all sampling performed in situ. This porous polymer is controlled by EFSI, and is trade-named Reclaim{reg_sign}. Through once-monthly sample recovery, analysis, and reporting of results, US EPA and state UST regulations for monthly monitoring release detection are met. Referred to as Fuel Finder{trademark}, this monthly UST release detection process has been independently validated by Carnegie-Mellon Research Institute, per US EPA ``Third Party Evaluation`` Protocol. Excellent contaminant fingerprints are obtainable, and serve for diagnostic or forensic interpretations. The semiquantitative Fuel Finder{trademark}method is a patented UST release detection process for any liquid or vapor VOCs. Sample analysis routinely allows for identification of fuel types, grades, and relative ages or degrees of weathering. Analysis of the fuel-related compounds is typically done with GC/FID so that a periodic representation of the fuel mix available is reviewed. Reclaim{reg_sign} provides fuel signatures or fingerprints that closely match the parent fuel responsible for a contamination problem. Reclaim{reg_sign} shows affinity for virtually all hydrocarbons found in gasoline, jet fuels, kerosene and diesel fuels.
