  • Sandia National Laboratories and the University of New Mexico's Anderson School of Management are developing a program which enables M.B.A. students to assist in commercializing Sandia-developed technologies. Thus far, students have prepared detailed business plans (which include market analyses, design and development sections, and pro forma financials) for a wide range of technologies (robotics software, electron accelerators, acoustic detectors, sof-gel processing, imaging sensors, and chemical plating). This paper reports on potential applications which include waste management, cancer treatment, oil and gas transportation, coating of plastics, manufacturing and assembly, and parts inspections. By having graduate students conduct the research necessary tomore » identify positive net-present-value projects, Sandia is able to interest private sector firms in its technologies.« less
  • As the Lead Laboratory for the Department of Energy in the field of physical security, Sandia National Laboratories has had the opportunity to collect extensive amounts of information on the technologies of physical security. Over the past 15 years, the volume of this knowledge has become so extensive that Sandia is now taking steps to make this information as available as possible to the DOE community and, where possible, other government agencies and NRC licensees. Through these technology transfer efforts, there are also programs available that allow cooperative research agreements between Sandia and the private sector as well.
