  • Data from three experiments performed at the linear accelerator in Saclay, the Tomsk synchrotron, and the MAMI accelerator in Mainz and devoted to studying single pion photoproduction on light nuclei that is accompanied by nucleon emission are analyzed. The behavior of respective experimental cross sections, which is inexplicable in the impulse approximation, is interpreted within a model where the formation of an intermediate quasibound isobar-nucleus state is followed by its decay to a final state involving a pion and a nucleon.
  • The photoproduction of pion pairs is investigated by analysis of the matrix element in terms of the angular momentum and isospin states. The integral equation for the production amplitude is solved under certain broad assumptions and an estimate of rescattering corection arising out of the many particle intermiediate states is obtained and shown to be small at least in the sub-Bev region. The effect of pion-pion resonance is shown to be small for energies up to about 700 Mev of the incident photon. (auth)
  • Cross sections have been measured for the reactions pp..-->..pp..pi../sup +/..pi../sup -/, pn..-->..pn..pi../sup +/..pi../sup -/, pn..-->..pp..pi../sup -/..pi../sup 0/, and pd..-->..pd..pi../sup +/..pi../sup -/ at energies 730, 778, 837, 884, and 978 MeV. An isospin analysis is made of the meson pair production reactions in nucleon-nucleon collisions in the region of energies from threshold to 1.5 GeV. Inelastic cross sections are determined for production of two mesons individually for states with isospins of the nucleon-nucleon system T = 0 and 1.
  • We revisit the problem of interplay between the strong and the Coulomb interaction in the charged-to-neutral yield ratio for BB and DD pairs near their respective thresholds in e{sup +}e{sup -} annihilation. We consider here a realistic situation with a resonant interaction in the isospin I=0 channel and a nonresonant strong-scattering amplitude in the I=1 state. We find that the yield ratio has a smooth behavior depending on the scattering phase in the I=1 channel. The same approach is also applicable to the KK production at the {phi}(1020) resonance, where the Coulomb effect in the charged-to-neutral yield ratio is generallymore » sensitive to the scattering phases in both the isoscalar and the isovector channels. Furthermore, we apply the same approach to the treatment of the effect of the isotopic mass difference between the charged and neutral mesons and argue that the strong-scattering effects generally result in a modification to the pure kinematical effect of this mass difference.« less
