Title: Air bag restraint device

Abstract

A rear-seat air bag restraint device is disclosed that prevents an individual, or individuals, from continuing violent actions while being transported in a patrol vehicle`s rear seat without requiring immediate physical contact by the law enforcement officer. The air bag is activated by a control switch in the front seat and inflates to independently restrict the amount of physical activity occurring in the rear seat of the vehicle while allowing the officer to safely stop the vehicle. The air bag can also provide the officer additional time to get backup personnel to aid him if the situation warrants it. The bag is inflated and maintains a constant pressure by an air pump. 8 figs.

  • In order to achieve improved cleaning of a tubular filter bag when a reverse purge of air is directed into the filter bag, there is provided interiorly of the filter bag an elongate tube which is constructed in such a way as to serve for supporting and holding the filter bag in an open tubular configuration and for also diffusing and distributing air directed to the filter bag when a reverse purge of air is directed into the filter bag for cleaning of the filter bag.   • An air bag has been designed and laboratory tested for use in existing police vehicles that will restrain a person if he or she becomes violent. The device will prevent self-injury and protect the vehicle and officer. The device does not pose a suffocation hazard and can be quickly and easily inflated or deflated by the officer from the front seat. The device is ready for field testing.
  • A dust collector is described having a bag support frame and a cell plate to which is connected one end of a fabric sleeve filter, a self tensioning bag device comprising: compressible conical spring means interconnected between the bag support frame and the other end of the fabric sleeve filter opposite the one end connected to the cell plate, the spring means having first and second open ends wherein the first end is larger in diameter that the second end and the spring means tapers uniformly from the first end to the second end; retainer means overlying connected to themore » first end of the conical spring means and having a central opening therethrough, the retainer means providing a first spring biasing surface; first draw bar means having outwardly extending ears engaging the retainer means and a U-shaped spring penetrating portion received within the central opening of the retainer means and received longitudinally through the length of the spring means to terminate in a bight end outwardly from the second end of the spring means; bag connecting means coupled to the bight end of the first draw bar and connected to suspendingly support the filter therefrom; second draw bar means having outwardly extending ears engaging the second end of the spring means to provide a second spring biasing surface, the second draw bar means including a U-shaped spring penetrating portion received longitudinally through the length of the spring means and received within the central opening of the retainer means to terminate in a bight end outwardly from the retainer means; adjustable frame support means connected to the bag support frame and to the bight end of the second draw bar means; and whereby the filter sleeve is suspended from the bag support frame and approximately tensioned by the adjustable frame support means to permit the spring means to linearly act against the first and second spring biasing surfaces in opposing fashion.« less
