Title: Shot-noise-limited detection of absorbance changes induced by subpicojoule laser pulses in optical pump-probe experiments

We describe a high-frequency modulation and detection system capable of measuring absorbance changes {Delta}{ital A} on the order of 10{sup {minus}6} in optical pump-probe experiments using submilliwatt laser powers from a mode-locked ultrafast laser.
