Detailed investigation of the lattice structure of zeolite ZSM-11 by a combination of solid-state NMR and synchrotron X-ray diffraction techniques

The lattice structure of a pure and completely siliceous sample of zeolite ZSM-11 has been investigated by a combination of high-resolution solid-state {sup 29}Si MAS NMR and synchrotron-based X-ray powder diffraction techniques. The structure is temperature dependent in the range 263-363 K and a good fit to the diffraction data at 363 K is obtained with space group I{anti 4}m2 and a{sub 0} = 20.067 (1) and c{sub 0} = 13.411 (1). At room temperature the XRD data cannot be refined as the structure is intermediate and the lattice structure of the limiting low-temperature, low-symmetry form will only be deducedmore » from data collected at 263 K.« less

An Efficient Referencing And Sample Positioning System To Investigate Heterogeneous Substances With Combined Microfocused Synchrotron X-ray Techniques

A referencing and sample positioning system has been developed to transfer object positions measured with an offline microscope to a synchrotron experimental station. The accuracy should be sufficient to deal with heterogeneous samples on micrometer scale. Together with an online fluorescence mapping visualisation the optical alignment helps to optimize measuring procedures for combined microfocused X-ray techniques.

Experimental investigation of internal two-phase flow structures and dynamics of quasi-stable sheet cavitation by fast synchrotron x-ray imaging

The quasi-stable sheet cavitation produced in a small Venturi channel is investigated using a fast synchrotron X-ray imaging technique aided with conventional high speed photography. The use of X-rays instead of visible light solves cavitation opacity related issues, and X-ray phase contrast-based edge enhancement enables high-definition visualization of the internal two-phase morphology. The simultaneous acquisition of time-resolved velocity and void fraction fields through post-processing the recorded X-ray images reveals, for the first time, the complex diphasic flow structures inside the sheet cavity, which is essentially divided into 6 characteristic parts.
