The critical assembly chosen to perform this irradiation experiment is the Flat-Top assembly. The purpose of this experiment is twofold. First, similar to the irradiation performed in the Zeus all oralloy experiment on Comet, the purpose of this experiment is to re-establish the ability to execute foil irradiations in a critical assembly so that we can analyze and determine the fission products in the irradiated foils. The second purpose is to address known deficiencies in our current understanding of fission yields in various neutron spectra. This experiment will have a harder neutron spectrum compared to the one performed on the Comet assembly (all oralloy reflected with copper) few months ago.
