Title: Hadronic transitions between bottomonium states

The bottomium system is comprised of bound b{bar b} quark-antiquark states. The triplet states, {Upsilon}(nS) and x(nP), have been observed. The singlet states, {eta}{sub b}(nS) and h{sub b}(nP), are predicted to exist but have not been observed. The hadronic transitions {Upsilon}(3S) {yields} {pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup {minus}}{Upsilon}(1S), {Upsilon}(3S) {yields} {pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup {minus}}{Upsilon}(2S), {Upsilon}(2S) {yields} {pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup {minus}}{Upsilon}(1S) have been studied using data collected with the CLEO II detector at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring (CESR). Measurements of the branching ratio and invariant mass spectrum for {Upsilon}(3S) {yields} {pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup {minus}}{Upsilon}(1S) and {Upsilon}(3S) {yields} {pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup {minus}}{Upsilon}(2S) are reported. The measured rates are: Br({Upsilon}(3S) {yields} {pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup {minus}}{Upsilon}(1S)) = (4.52 {+-} 0.35)%; Br({Upsilon}(3S) {yields} {pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup {minus}}{Upsilon}(2S)) = (3.32 {+-} 0.52)%. A measurement of the branching ratio {Upsilon}(3S) {yields} {Upsilon}(2S) + X and a determination of the rates for {Upsilon}(3S) {yields} {Upsilon}(2S){pi}{sup 0}{pi}{sup 0} and {Upsilon}(3S) {yields} {Upsilon}(2S){gamma}{gamma} is achieved by examining the {Upsilon}(2S) {yields} {pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup {minus}}{Upsilon}(1S) transitions. The measured rates are: Br({Upsilon}(3S) {yields} {Upsilon}(2S) + X) = (10.2 {+-} 0.9)%; Br({Upsilon}(3S) {yields} {Upsilon}(2S){gamma}{gamma}) = (4.83 {+-} 0.76)%; Br({Upsilon}(3S) {yields} {Upsilon}(2S){pi}{sup 0}{pi}{sup 0}) = (1.99 {+-} 0.43)%. A 90% confidence level upper limit of the branching ratio for {Upsilon}(3S) {yields} {pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup {minus}}h{sub b} is reported and the first evidence of {pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup {minus}} transitions between x states is reported.
