Based on the factorization in perturbative QCD, a jet cross section in heavy-ion collisions can be expressed as a convolution of the jet cross section in $p+p$ collisions and a jet energy loss distribution. Using this simple expression and the Markov Chain Monte Carlo method, we carry out Bayesian analyses of experimental data on jet spectra to extract energy loss distributions for both single inclusive and γ-triggered jets in $$\mathrm{Pb+Pb}$$ collisions with different centralities at two colliding energies at the Large Hadron Collider. Probing jet splitting and energy loss via groomed jets in relativistic heavy-ion collisions

The nuclear modification of groomed jet splitting in relativistic heavy-ion collisions at RHIC and the LHC is studied based on higher twist jet energy loss formalism. Assuming coherent energy loss for two subjets, we find a non-monotonic dependence on jet energy for the nuclear modification of jet splitting function, which provides a good description of CMS and STAR groomed jet measurements. In contrast, the assumption of independent energy loss for two subjets cannot explain the observed nuclear modification pattern for groomed jet splitting.

Non-Abelian feature of parton energy loss in energy dependence of jet quenching in high-energy heavy-ion collisions

One of the non-Abelian features of parton energy loss is the ratio {delta}E{sub g}/{delta}E{sub q}=9/4 between gluon and quark jets. Since jet production rate is dominated by quark jets at high x{sub T}=2p{sub T}/{radical}(s) and by gluon jets at low x{sub T}, high p{sub T} hadron suppression in high-energy heavy-ion collisions should reflect such a non-Abelian feature. Within a leading-order perturbative QCD parton model that incorporates transverse expansion and Woods-Saxon nuclear distribution, the energy dependence of large p{sub T}{approx}5-20 GeV/c hadron suppression is found to be sensitive to the non-Abelian feature of parton energy loss and could be tested bymore »« less
