We report on infrared studies of charge dynamics in a prototypical pnictide system: the BaFe2As2 family. Our experiments have identified hallmarks of the pseudogap state in the BaFe2As2 system that mirror the spectroscopic manifestations of the pseudogap in the cuprates. The magnitude of the infrared pseudogap is in accord with that of the spin-density-wave gap of the parent compound. By monitoring the superconducting gap of both P- and Co-doped compounds, we find that the infrared pseudogap is unrelated to superconductivity. Some polycrystalline forms of the K- and Co-doped BaFe{sub 2}As{sub 2} and SrFe{sub 2}As{sub 2} superconductors now have a critical current density (J{sub c}) within a factor of ∼5 of that required for real applications, even though it is known that some grain boundaries (GBs) block current, thus, raising the question of whether this blocking is intrinsic or extrinsically limited by artefacts amenable to improvement by better processing. Scaling between magnetic field and temperature in the high-temperature superconductor BaFe₂(As_1-xP_x)₂

Many exotic metallic systems have a resistivity that varies linearly with temperature, and the physics behind this is thought to be connected to high-temperature superconductivity in the cuprates and iron pnictides. Although this phenomenon has attracted considerable attention, it is unclear how the relevant physics manifests in other transport properties, for example their response to an applied magnetic field.
