Real-space renormalization-group study of random-superconductor models

A zero-temperature Migdal-Kadanoff renormalization-group scheme is used to investigate two classical spin-glass lattice models of a random superconductor in a magnetic field. We show that the two models considered here become the same under renormalization and belong to a different universality class from the Ising and {ital XY} spin glasses. We find that, in contrast with results from recent Monte Carlo simulations, the lower critical dimension for a nonzero-temperature vortex-glass transition in a random superconductor is greater than 3.

Yang-Lee edge singularity from a real-space renormalization-group method

The quantum one-dimensional transverse Ising model with an imaginary longitudinal field is studied at T=0 using a real-space renormalization-group method. Evaluation is made of the real part of the ground-state longitudinal magnetization which is related to the Yang-Lee distribution of zeros of the partition function for the two-dimensional classical Ising model. The edge exponents are found as sigma=-0.25 +- 0.05 and eta=-1.0 +- 0.02, in agreement with series expansion estimates.

Contractor renormalization group technology and exact Hamiltonian real-space renormalization group transformations

The contractor renormalization group method, a new approach to solving Hamiltonian lattice systems, is presented. The method defines a systematic and nonperturbative means of implementing Kadanoff-Wilson real-space renormalization group transformations using cluster expansion and contraction techniques. We illustrate the approach and demonstrate its effectiveness using scalar field theory, the Heisenberg antiferromagnetic chain, and the anisotropic Ising chain. Future applications to the Hubbard and {ital t}-{ital J} models and lattice gauge theory are discussed. {copyright} {ital 1996 The American Physical Society.}

Renormalization-Group Calculation of Local Magnetizations and Correlations: Random-Bond, Random-Field, and Spin-Glass Systems

We show that extensive statistical mechanics information can be obtained by the calculation of local densities such as local magnetizations and neighbor correlations, made possible by renormalization-group theory. This is illustrated with quenched random-bond, random-field, and spin-glass systems, in two and three dimensions. RENORMALIZATION OF MANY-FERMION MOMENTUM-SPACE DISTRIBUTIONS IN HIGHER RANDOM PHASE APPROXIMATIONS

The approach to the many-fermion problem known as the method of higher random phase approximations (RPA) is given a more rigorous formulation. It is shown that the previous heuristic procedures for evaluation of the second RPA are justified, in that expectation values of plane wave operators with respect to the true ground state may validly be replaced by their values in the unperturbed Fermi state. This property of momentum-space occupation renormalization is conjectured to hold also to higher orders of RPA than the second. (auth)
