Title: CHEETAH 1.0 user`s manual

Abstract

CHEETAH is an effort to bring the TIGER thermochemical code into the 1990s. A wide variety of improvements have been made in Version 1.0, and a host of others will be implemented in the future. In CHEETAH 1.0 I have improved the robustness and ease of use of TIGER. All of TIGER`s solvers have been replaced by new algorithms. I find that CHEETAH solves a wider variety of problems with no user intervention (e.g. no guesses for the C-J state) than TIGER did. CHEETAH has been made simpler to use than TIGER; typical use of the code occurs with the new standard run command. I hope that CHEETAH makes the use of thermochemical codes more attractive to practical explosive formulators. In the future I plan to improve the underlying science in CHEETAH. More accurate equations of state will be used in the gas and the condensed phase. A kinetics capability will be added to the code that will predict reaction zone thickness. CHEETAH is currently a numerical implementation of C-J theory. It will, become an implementation of ZND theory. Further ease of use features will eventually be added; an automatic formulator that adjusts concentrations to match desired properties is planned.

  • DERAD - Decommissioning Economic and Risk ADvisor - is a decision support tool designed to help utility decision makers analyze economics and financial risk of decommissioning nuclear power plants. Your current copy of DERAD, Version 1.0, is customized for PWR configurated plants. DERAD has been developed by Decision Focus Incorporated under EPRI sponsorship. If you have ideas or recommendations for how we can improve and enhance future versions of DERAD, we would like to hear from you.
  • DOE contracted with Sandia to install a radar acquisition system (RAMS) to gather aircraft flight data near the Pantex Plant in Amarillo, TX. To support this effort, data reduction tools were needed to help analyze the radar data. Plot-flight is one of several data reduction tools that comprise the Sandia Airspace Recording System (SARS). The radar data is needed to support the Pantex Environmental Impact Study. Plot-flight is a DOS-based plot program that allows analysts to replay pre-recorded air traffic over Albuquerque and Amarillo. The program is flexible enough to permit replay of daily flights either sequentially, by range, ormore » by Beacon ID. In addition to replay, the program is setup for data entry. Analysts can correlate electronic aircraft flight data to the green strip flights logs obtained from the local air traffic control center. The green strips are used by air traffic controllers to record each scheduled flight. The green strips have information not available electronically such as aircraft type and aircraft ID. This type of information is necessary to accommodate the current models used in aircraft crash analysis. Plot-flight correlates the hand-written information from the green strips to the recorded aircraft flight.« less
  • Industrial solvents and cleaners are used in maintenance facilities to remove wax, grease, oil, carbon, machining fluids, solder fluxes, mold release, and various other contaminants from parts, and to prepare the surface of various metals. However, because of growing environmental and worker-safety concerns, government regulations have already excluded the use of some chemicals and have restricted the use of halogenated hydrocarbons because they affect the ozone layer and may cause cancer. The Solvent Handbook Database System lets you view information on solvents and cleaners, including test results on cleaning performance, air emissions, recycling and recovery, corrosion, and non-metals compatibility. Companymore » and product safety information is also available.« less
  • This topical report is the technical manual and basis for delivery of the software tided Pipe Axial Flaw Failure Criterion. This criterion was developed under SI Task 1. 13 for the Line Pipe Research Supervisory Committee of the Pipeline Research Committee. This software has been given the acronym PAFFC, which follows from the underlined letters in the title for this code. The purpose of PAFFC is to determine the failure conditions associated with a single external axial flaw in a gas transmission pipeline. Failure is determined concurrently in terms of two independent failure processes - fracture and/or net-section (plastic) collapsemore » of the ligament between the flaw and the inside surface of the pipe.« less
  • The Remedial Options Assessment Model (ROAM), an interactive GIS-based model, predicts soil and groundwater contaminant concentrations for pre- and post-remediation conditions. ROAM simulates both single solute and multi-component transport. Multiple sources of contamination can be simulated in both the vadose zone and groundwater. Contaminant transport is coupled between the vadose zone and groundwater. ROAM is composed of several transport models and a flow model. For transport in the vadose zone, ROAM uses either a single contaminant analytical solution or a multicomponent numerical solution to the one-dimensional convection-dispersion equation. For transport in the saturated zone, ROAM uses either a three-dimensional analyticalmore » solution or a two-dimensional numerical solution. A two-dimensional steady-state numerical flow model is coupled with the numerical transport model solution. The solution includes the processes of advective transport, hydrodynamic dispersion, first-order chemical reactions, and linear adsorption, except for the vadose zone numerical model, which considers partitioning between the four phases. The multi-component transport is designed to simulate leaching of constituents from fuels or tar. These conditions often occur at former manufactured gas plant sites and at sites where fuel tanks leaked or spills occurred. ROAM simulates the effects of remedial alternatives on existing vadose zone and groundwater aqueous and solid phase chemical concentrations. Soil remediation measures include capping, excavation, tank removal, and in-situ bioremediation. Remediation options for groundwater include extraction/injection systems, hydraulic barriers, gravity drains, in-situ bioremediation, and source excavation.« less
