Title: Smart Document System (SDS) used in managing DOE order`s with electronic Engineering Procedures

Abstract

The Microsoft (MS) Windows product is widely available for PC`s. There exists many thousands of them at Sandia. All of the MS applications in Windows have a Help file. This help file informs the user ``how to`` use and run that application. It is an ``on-line`` manual. The ``Help Compiler`` was obtained from Microsoft. Use of this compiler enables one to insert text in a form the MS ``Help Engine`` recognizes. This means all of the features of the Help file: Hypertext (hot links), browsing, searching, indexing, bookmarks, annotation, are available for your text. This turns a document into a ``Smart Document.`` The use of this Smart Document System (SDS) for Engineering Procedures (EPs) is described.

  • The Maui Smart Grid Project (MSGP) is under the leadership of the Hawaii Natural Energy Institute (HNEI) of the University of Hawaii at Manoa. The project team includes Maui Electric Company, Ltd. (MECO), Hawaiian Electric Company, Inc. (HECO), Sentech (a division of SRA International, Inc.), Silver Spring Networks (SSN), Alstom Grid, Maui Economic Development Board (MEDB), University of Hawaii-Maui College (UHMC), and the County of Maui. MSGP was supported by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) under Cooperative Agreement Number DE-FC26-08NT02871, with approximately 50% co-funding supplied by MECO. The project was designed to develop and demonstrate an integrated monitoring, communications, more » database, applications, and decision support solution that aggregates renewable energy (RE), other distributed generation (DG), energy storage, and demand response technologies in a distribution system to achieve both distribution and transmission-level benefits. The application of these new technologies and procedures will increase MECO’s visibility into system conditions, with the expected benefits of enabling more renewable energy resources to be integrated into the grid, improving service quality, increasing overall reliability of the power system, and ultimately reducing costs to both MECO and its customers.« less
  • DOE facilities handling special nuclear material are required to comply with DOE Order 5633.3, which addresses various aspects of nuclear material accounting. In particular, it requires that control limits be calculated for nuclear material inventory differences. These requirements and methods of meeting them are described. The four steps in this process are the creation of a variance propagation model of the nuclear material accounting system, the validation of the model, the application of the model, and the documentation of the model; the first two of these steps are discussed at length. Topics addressed include: the mathematics of variance propagation, themore » structure of nuclear material accounting systems, sources of uncertainty in real accounting systems, statistical models of these sources of uncertainty, methods of estimating error standard deviations, calculation of control limits from inventory difference standard deviations, and comparison of models with historical inventory difference data. A chapter is also devoted to calculational methods. The approach emphasizes constructing models that can be implemented relatively easily and improved as data is accumulated and understanding of the system is gained, rather than attempting all-inclusive, highly detailed models at the outset.« less

  • This document provides guidance for the revision of DOE Order 5820.2A, ``Radioactive Waste Management.`` Technical Working Groups have been established and are responsible for writing the revised order. The Technical Working Groups will use this document as a reference for polices and procedures that have been established for the revision process. The overall intent of this guidance is to outline how the order will be revised and how the revision process will be managed. In addition, this document outlines technical issues considered for inclusion by a Department of Energy Steering Committee.
  • This document is designed for the users of the OS910 real-time operating system for the SDS-910--PDP-15 computer network. It describes what information the user must provide to the system for successful operation. Included is a description of all programed operators (POPS) that will be of use to the user. 2 tables (auth)
