STIP Managers Teleconference March 5, 2003 STIP Managers/representatives participating in March 5 Teleconference: Dave Hamrin (ORNL), Pam Novak (PNNL), Mary Petersen (BNL), Mary Donahue (NREL), Dennis Gound (ORO), Mina Perrin (SRO), Dale Claflin (INEEL), Yolanda Bolivar (ALO), Kathy Macal (ANL), Kate Sordelet (AMES), Stephanie Janicek (LMIT), Bettie Moore (YMP), Carol Backhus (LBNL), Meg Owen (ORAU), Isom Harrison (LLNL), Dorothy Riehle (RLO), Cathie Witker (SRS), Nicole Brooks (IDO), Carl Robertson (IDO), Hope Matthews (RLO), Sharon Lee (BHI), Jane Tierney (LBNL), Rita Hohenbrink (OSTI), Sharon Jordan (OSTI), and Kathy Waldrop (OSTI). STIP Meeting (Sharon Jordan): Since the 2003 Annual Information Technology Conference (AITC) isn’t following its usual content format, etc., OSTI recommends the STIP Meeting be held another time. Consequently, the group decided we should make other arrangements for the 2003 STIP Meeting. The Nevada Operations Office in Las Vegas has offered their facility, free-of- charge. The large room holds 125 persons and attendees would not need clearances. The room can be split in half; one side holds 40 persons, U-shape like we normally are setup for a STIP Meeting. The group agreed that we could not meet before April, but there are some spring conflicts. The middle of April (after the 15th) held a lot of appeal, as did the last week of April. If the meeting isn't held by the very beginning of May, we'd have to wait until the end of June. A two-day meeting should be appropriate. Monday-Thursday are the best days to get good hotel rates in Las Vegas. Otherwise, a Sunday STI Managers meeting would have been a good possibility. OSTI will create a draft agenda which will likely include an orientation session for newcomers' (and those wanting refresher training), a DOE session (perhaps concurrent with a contractor-only session), and a general meeting. . Las Vegas agreed to hold the meeting room for two sets of dates until a decision has been made. A preliminary vote reflects a preference for April 30-May 1. Tours of the Nevada Test Site and Yucca Mountain may also be offered. Sharon Jordan will be out of the office for about a week and a half, so Kathy Waldrop will handle the meeting details. Homeland Security was suggested as a good topic. Contractors are encouraged to give talks at the meeting. Revising the strategic plan would also be a topic, as would harvesting, digitizing legacy collections, etc. Miscellaneous: New OSTI Service Directory is up on the OSTI Home Page (http://www.osti.gov/svcdir.html) The next call may be in April month, but it will be brief and consist of details of the STI meeting. Most of the planning will be done by e-mail.
